The need of a proper understanding and rendering of the term S(s)pirit in modern Bible translations.

In the last Swedish official Bible  translation, the Greek Word pneuma is rendered with “anden” in Rom 8:4,5, 90 and 10 “vår ande” and according to ‘Statens offentliga utredning, SOU :100, 3098’ indicates that the human spirit is addressed with this indicates that the human spirit and without any explicit support in the Greek text even puts a possessive pronoun into the Swedish text in Gal 5:5,16.17.18 and 6:8 and not the least the crucial text of Rom 1:4 and thus gives the impression that it was in Jesus own spirit, that such a degree of holiness was achieved, that he was qualified as the Son of God.

I know of cause, that it was with the theologian and Church Father Athanasius and the confirmation in the Church Council in Constantinople 381 that the dogm of the Divinity of the Holy Spirit and His position as the third person in the Good head was confirmed and from this decision if was actual to render the S(s)pirit with a big S when the Holy Spirit was indicated.

I know that in the original Greek no such diversification was made, pneuma is unconditionally written with minuscule even when God’s Spirit is indicated. After  Constantinopel every Bible translator has to disclose his own understanding of pneuma by his choice of big or small letter for rendering  pneuma. ( See E. Würtheim, The Text for the O.T.  ( Oxford 1975) p 33) . Paul Tillich  writes that   ‘The words “Spirit ” and “#Spiritual”# are used only for the divine Spirit and its effects in man and are written with a capital “S”.

Why take place for writing this? There is a wide difference between the power and every that our own spirit can produce, and that limitless, unceasing every that is stemming from God’s Spirit, a Spirit that overcomes the flesh, that changed the ‘fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes sodomites, thieves, greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers’ in Corint from being without inheritance in the kingdom of God to know be fully equipped and armed to defeat the evil things, and this by the sanctification in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
